Support Provided
The Emergency Food Program is a year-round effort to provide food and personal items to families needing emergency assistance due to layoff, illness, disability, or insufficient family income. During the summer when school lunches are not available, extra food items are provided to families with school-age children and support is provided to Tipp-Monroe Community Services for the “Lunch On Us” food program. Finally, extra food items are also provided to support two “Backpack” Programs for school-aged children in our service area. They believe children do not learn when they are hungry.
The Holiday Basket program provides a complete family holiday dinner and also includes new toys for pre-teens (with support from the Toys for Tots Program), gift vouchers for teens (supported by local charitable donations), and clothing vouchers graciously donated by The Clothesline.
Staffing:
Needy Basket is operated entirely with volunteer labor, staff, and management. Members receive and sort food donations, stock shelves, provide maintenance, and distribute food. Organization Policies are established by a General Membership Committee and a Committee of Trustees. Food purchases and operations are supervised by an elected Pantry Manager. Administrative matters are taken care of by elected officers (Chairman, Co-Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary). Volunteers and other community supporters maintain the food pantry, stock, and pack food items, and deliver Christmas Baskets.
